Night boy Tsui Tai saw Cumming at 6 o'clock. He smelt of

orink. He saw him again at 11 o'clock and 2 o'clock. Knows no-

thing about the other affair.

The girl repeated the statements to me personally this

morning.

I have no doubt that Cumming was under the influence of

liquor. He was also in the female ward where he is expressly

ordered not to go unless in emerge.cy.His remark that the girl

hao tried to hang herself ( as she had tried to ao on a prE-

vious occasion) was probably untrue as every care has been taken

to prevent a repetition anu no string or rope could be found to

justify such a supposition. The girl is an Epileptic Lanatic who

during the last few weeks has been perfectly rational and her

evidence to me can be relied on to a very great extent.

After plague work Cumming took too wtel liquor for some

time.
